HRH, The Royal Prince of Wales

I was asked an interesting question today by a prospective client, he asked me who taught me how to take photos, my immediate response was that I was self taught. Then he insisted on the question again. I wasn't sure what to say at that point, as I started to think about his question again. He was right, I was somehow influenced by someone regardless whether I was directly taught or not.

I went through all the people that had influenced my eye and realised that I was taught by a some really interesting people. I'm comfortable saying that Sebastao Salgado taught me how to take photos. No he didn't teach me how to use my camera, but how to see. That to me is photography, you see first then map. That's what photography means, Photo-Mapping. You map what you see.

The art is in the seeing.

What a hansome man he is!
I sometimes find that what I’ve composed (or hoped to capture) through my view finder isn’t what is necessary recorded (mapped), the moment my shutter clicks. Be it in terms of aesthetics, form or context, does that still make an image a true representation, or just merely a likeness.

Or maybe, “...seeing something, knowing how you want it to look, and making it so..”, ain’t always so.

This is a whimsical find.
I hope you mentioned me in your long line of credits grin I taught you how to....to...to...laugh.
People talk about the seeing eye. Most people haven't got it and it shows in their pictures, which may be competent but just don't do anything.
