Self Portrait #5

Every so often I like to make a portait of myself. Every photographer has one done at some point in their visual creative adventure.

A portrait in my definition is a visual representation of a person's character. I read somewhere that if you can keep your sitter still then you have mastered portrait photography.

In this self portrait I have tried to show a different side to my character.  I'm not really so sure what to call it. I think it should resonate with the ideas that those who know me well have of me and it's me catching myself, still.

I'm quite pleased with this shot by the way.

P.S. The distration at the top is my light source, I thought that if most successful self portraits have the photographer photographing his reflection in a mirror resulting in him/her photographing the most important tool used of his trade too then I must have my most important tool too...my light souce.

Nicely done bro grin
Jide Alakija: Thanks. One day you'll do one of your own. Still waiting for that day to come wink
Your portraits seem to be pretty different each time I see them - almost like a different person each time. Here, you remind me of Wyclef Jean smile This is a nice one. Very well done.
Jide Alakija: Hmmm. I wonder what you mean? You seem to be suggesting that you have seen
quite a few of my "self-portraits". I guess one portrait can't really catch everything about a person, especially as peoples characters are somewhat submissive to the stage they are at in their life. What do you think?

Why are you wearing a baseball cap and trying to look tough like a rapper?
Jide Alakija: What's up Bizzle ma Nizzle!
I agree with you Jide. The phases of life surely affect us all. I wonder what you think of this picture......

I'm still trying to figure out who it is, with the famous "hand over face". smile
Jide Alakija: LOL. That wasn't a self portrait! WOW! That was sometime ago.
Gorgeous shot, love the black and white.

It's been a while since I was here commenting, i'm sorry. I'll try to get better.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Josef. I've been lazy too going around. I should do it more often.

it is a great portrait Jide. Your expression is slightly quizzicle, curious, intense. very good work sir. mal
Jide Alakija: Thanks Mr Mal. Hope you're good.
Totally agree with Bitchy - why you trying to look like a gangsta?

Oh by the way, I have done a self-portrait:

You might wanna pester Subster for one now smile

Jide Alakija: Ah! So that wasn't Suby! I thought it was (who left the first message). You should get Suby to do one...it's about time.

yeah you do look kinda don't-mess-with-me-ish
Jide Alakija: LOL. I wasn't actually going for that look. I hardly know what I'm going for until I see the final product come out. So it's interesting hearing your own intepretation.
