600 Cheers for you S and S

For my 600th post I decided I'd dedicate this shot to Suby and Sinem. For no real reason other than the fact that I am very inspired by their relationship. These two are one very fine couple who just do everything together. I think Suby and Sinem have found very good friends in each other and as such have a very lovely friendship with everyone that they come to meet. So guys this ones for you.

My Portrait Photography Dilemma

I know it's really silly but will all my portraits on Alakija.com I don't offer portrait shoots officially as one of the things I do yet. This is because I really don't know what is a good offer on portrait photography. I find that some people want edgy stuff and are willing to pay "Venture" prices while some just want a simple straightforward shot taken by a very good pro. Obviously this is reflected in price. Now let me pose the question to you, if I were to take a portrait of you or to do a session what would you expect from me. Please if you can, list out even the media you'd expect your portrait to be in i.e. framed (size), prints (how many?) and what sizes.

Congratulations for your 600th post!!
That is so sweet. They totally got it right these two. Inspiring is the word. Like the colour conversion here. COngrats on 600.
600? bravo!!
and i thot that i worry and think to much. just throw urself at it and see what comes out of it smile
I really like the fact that you dedicate your 600th to S&S, with regards to your portrait dillema, one should do what feels right, and what he is good at, imho. Have I now even brought you farther from home? I would want you to do the "Edgy" stuff and pay venture price, and print BIG on canvas or glossy and hang it somewhere gallery style.

COngrats on 600, and succes with your new commercial venture!!
Ladies and gentlemen, Introducing Mr & Mrs Suby & Sinem
Congrats on ur 600th post Jide. This is true dedication (unlike some of us). Just the right people to dedicate this to...gr8. I figure with your dilemma, once you cover your necessary costs, then the price depends on the client. You have clearly mentioned two groups of people who I dare say wont pay the same cos what they want is so different. I might be wrong, but I tailor my costs to the client. Cos portraiture I think has so many different shapes n sizes. Ok i am blabbing. Congrats
Aaaawww, me & the better half (wipes tear from eye), you de man Alakija fella, congrats on 600. Dang we been at this for that long? smile

To answer your question above, what would I expect when they come to you, Quality, that Alakija fella magic, style, finish. Look at it this way, when people go to VENTURE, you do not tell them what to do, they tell you how to pose, and all, then they offer you a selection of choicves, you then choose from those choices. PERIOD. If you don't like what they have to offer, one does not go there, but their business models works and I know people who still pay those VENTURE prices.

Our portrait model is based on similar, we take the portraits our style and we offer you the client a few choices of media that the images could be on, sizes etc, our prices though are firm and rock solid, after all we need not forget one important thing, WE ARE ALSO SELLING THE SUBY & SINEM EXPERIENCE.

So now go forth my young Jedi and Jide Alakija your self to fame and fortune smile Just remember to pick us up on the way there tongue

Who would believe this shot was taken at the National Gallery smile Looks so well staged smile

Another perfect shot. I often visit S&S's site so it's good to put faces to the names! Well done on the 600... keep it up!

When I grow up, I want to be like them too. This is such a nice capture, deserves to be hanging on the wall of their living room.

Congratuation on your 600th post. Concerning the Price issue I think, people that come to you, come for the whole Alakija experience - like buying a pair of jeans from a regular shop is not the same a getting a D & G pair. You're skill have made you stand out and so hanging an Alakija portriat is not the same as hanging any other. Its quality and deserves to be rewarded financially. Thats my 2 cents. lol.
An ideal post and a happy 600th Jide!

If I came to you for my portrait, I would expect you to photograph me the way you see me in your eyes, no this style or that style or this treatment or that treatment. I would be expecting a Jide Alakija portrait. You need to start listening to your own gut feelings - what goes on in that solar plexus region and be guided by that; often you do, that is evident in the imagery I have seen thus far. Start trusting those instincts and you'll be on the right path I'm sure.
