Portrait Series Part Deux : Spiritual Joy
I thought I'd start the series with a really nice portrait of Simone from Siani, a young up and coming Gospel group in London. Asiko assisted me in this shoot and to him I am very very grateful. It's always good to have someone you can rely on when it comes to challenging photoshoots where you need ideas and speed.
Anyway enjoy this portrait. Another tomorrow.

Yay!!! I am the first to comment.
Jide Alakija: Well done and you win a prize!!!
Why are you going yellow on us, it's far too early in the week!
...Skee's gotta think fast here...ok...here goes: I like how the neckless is the only thing in focus here, the background blur is also very nice For those who really want to know what skee thinks...hehehe, use your imagination. Actually I really lke the colours....period!
Jide Alakija: Funny it must be the systems post processing, when I converted it from RAW the teeth were in focus too, though I don't think the technicalities take anything away from the shot. There is more to the shot than the technicalities.
Yellow ShMood, read my post on 28th July 2005 and you'll see why I'm on Yellow these days. Thanks for the comment.
Lovely colours Jide, and a blue guitar? Cool! Love her carefree pose
Jide Alakija: The Guitar is called "Israel" a personal treasure to Simone, you like it? I love it if you are wondering what I think about it.
Too tight a crop, and a tad bit too much of a tilt of the head, would have liked to see more of her in focus. Nice effort and Jide you are very very very brave to put this shot up. For that you get mad props
I think both the creative and technical side go hand in hand... ive been saying this for those of you that don't know skee basically all my life. Therefore I won't and don't take that as a good reason son!
Jide Alakija: Fair point! Mr Skee has made his point!
Well, on the list, I said what on earth is this and like what i saw when in full view. A different side to a hearty laughter.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Mate.
very powerful jide.... and she was strumming away at the time??? I love this its on point! WELL DONE!!
Jide Alakija: Thanks. I was waiting for your comment on this one. Infact I can see you commenting on all the portraits in this series.
this is a fabulous picture...the colour are well outlined. plus you have a way of capturing strong moments...
well done...
Jide Alakija: Thanks rooksters. I think I learnt a lot of that from working with Skee.
...and he's learning so really well
this is so beautiful and full of joy, really an exceptional photo
lovely photo. terrific twist on the traditional portrait. love the dof and the blurred effect of her hand on the guitar. well done.
Fantastic portrait! It has such life to it
wonderful photo! i love the muted color harmonies, and the expression of your subject that says so much without even showing her face. very nice work!
Ahh thats a great one....Love the angle you decided to take it from...its got so much spirit in it.
Quick quikie comments, Me likes it, me likes it, me likes it, me likes it
Suby P.s Only niggle though, would have prefered the lower bit of the shot to be in focus as well.
Oh this is so wonderful!!!
Hi Jide
I agree with the comments about the colors and the background , but sometimes one have to comments what one thinks even if you regret it later. I thought the the person depicted maybe would be sad that her teeth make her look a bit vampire-ish? Maybe most people look like that with from a frog perspective. I'm starting to grow thin on the top and I hate pictures taken of me where you can see that, so maybe its just my own vanity I'm projecting... Have a lovely day
Great sense of energy and joy here. Well captured!
A perfect capture of the passion in her performance!
lovely... the colours bring the portrait to life, showing the sheer joy she's experiencing at that moment. very well done.
ahhh - tan and blue ALWAYS makes great atmosphere colour wise, and I love the crop and the position, and there is so much joy in this. Interesting focusing as well, wonderful shot!
Great portrait, the expression and colours are spot on. Very nice.
Great shot, love the fun atmosphere in the picture.
Two words that came straight to my mind when I saw this: "India Arie". Very colourful picture. The veins on her right hand even looks like a flower embedded in the skin. In french, all I have said is "A beautiful picture". Tu Comprend?
Simply brilliant....People pictures are probably the hardest and when you've caught such extreme action and such strong emotion in one shot it really shows that yu're at the top of you're game...8.5/10 from me...simply outstanding.
Very unusual perspective but it really works! The tones could not be any better!
Amazing capture!
Great portrait! Love her expression.
It's 1:30am, and I'm struggling to finish Biology, so I'm taking a break and what better could I do than hang out at alakija
Hmmmm ok well shot, wrong moment for me. Well yes nice concept but it makes her look ugly and evil, with dracula teeth and a clown nose. (no offence to her, you made her look like this). Ah I see your schmood is yellow. Should I a) delete all i typed above with hard effort and hand co-ordination or b) be a mean fellow and just post it and get back to bio. Ok since its yellow, I'll give thou something to be happy about, I love the blurry background and blur guitar. This is the midnight comment gone wrong eh? Meh forget it just post this.
After reading some comments, it seems I'm the only fellow who doesn't like this, makes me feel odd. Must be all that carboxymethyl cellulose....(ice cream).
Love the angle of the shot and the colors as well ..nice shot
I love the colors here, very nice moment captured...and I have seen Siani perform...tres hot!
nice capture i like the angle and face expression
The colours, the bokeh, the composition. They all come together so well!
Hi Jide,
As always ... I love your work. You may remember me from way back. I was the youngster asking you for advice as per photography, cameras, and darkroom techniques (although i guess you might not recall cos lots of people ask you for advice). Anyway, I wanted to ask if it is okay to use a couple of your shoots on my website. I am creating my own blog and I would LOVE to use your work as a masterhead for my page and off course credit will be given to you. I will be awaiting your reply (PLEASE SAY YES!!!). Nuff Respect, Uzo
She looks like she's having a ton of fun! Love the angle.
I love this Jide. You have a gift for capturing personality in your images.
This is pure joy. I love the feeling and the coloring is great.
