A man in the middle of the road on the way to Nara.

This was something or someone I photographed while on a journey to a village called Nara, near Enugu in the Eastern part of Nigeria.

What was I thinking about when I took this shot? Well all think that struck me was the red soil, the lonely man and the lovely village around him. He was also in the middle of the road too. I felt that  a story or HIS story needed to be told so I went into photography mode. What did I do? I set my camera to 'aperture', set my f stop to 9.0 and thought of a straight composition parrallel to the horizon and employing the rule of thirds. I let the camera do the rest.

That's it.

What are you thoughts? Please say something. It really helps if you do.

This tells a story of loneliness, however somehow his forward steps also shows a tenacious man, like he has been through alot but hoping for better.

awesome shot
Jide Alakija: Thanx. An interesting persective, especially as he is one of those so called "mad men" we see all over the streets in Nigeria. Interesting that this didn't affect your thoughts on the picture or did you not notice.
I do like the empty feeling of the photo and all that space. What I really love thought is the half hidden woman in the doorway of the store to the left. It feels like there's always someone hidden in the shadows in one of those when I walk by.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Quicky, Great spot! I didn't even notice the lady. It adds something a little extra.
They say that walking allows a person to generate good thinking.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Richard! Always good to have your varying perspective on the image.
Beautiful image. The body language says it all. There is a stillness in the village and on the subject but the only moving part are his legs.

A sense of 'hope regardless of the situation' or 'lost but still moving on'.
what are you guys talking about? this guy's bottle is half-full! look closer.

plus he has slippers on for goodness sakes ;-). He's on holiday and it looks like a sunny 30 degrees. There is even a satellite dish in the background and a left over game of chess or something on that table.

ok seriously Jide, what i am impressed with on this one is that you managed to frame a decent shot in a short space of thinking and in a moving bus.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Emeka. I guess decisive moment shooting is something you develop over time.
