Fire Eater #1

Right enough of the fashion stuff for now, I think I'll keep my other shots till I'm quite confident in displaying them, yesterdays shot got a bit of a hammering.

As I promised, new material. Today I was with my really cool friend Claire, the lady who posed for this shot and this shot. Well she's quite a bit of an entertainer and we had planned to do some shots for one of her many talents as you can see in the shot. This was not actually supposed to be part of our shoot as she hadn't got her costumes with her and she was training her house mate in the art of fire eating. Anyway she didn't fail to impress me with this shot.

The shot itself was very dramatic that I really didn't need to do much in post processing, when I started I ended up doing quite a bit to create a subtle cool effect with it. What do you think? I have another one for you tomorrow too but let's see how this goes today.

Streetphone is back but with a twist this time. I've decided not to use my camera phone anylonger as I'm having problems getting it to connect to my laptop. It's now my Black and White Street photography blog. Check it out

You must know an awful lot of people. I like the shape of the flame; a good prelude (not sure about the crop).
Jide Alakija: Thanks...well I seem to be meeting a lot of people at interesting places such as stadia and the lot.

I think I need to take some lessons on cropping, I wasn't too sure about the crop too....okay here we go again today as well.

To tell the truth Jide, I looked at the other shots of Claire and I thopught they are part of you most awesome images (and I still think that) Then I look at this image of the same person and I sort of fall flat, apart from the fact she is fire eaating, it is a boring shot, staright of the camera?

Not feeling the background one bit, lighting and colour tones bbore me. But thats my personal feeling, maybe it because I still have memories of the other 2 amazingly lovely images oh her then I look at this and go and....

Jide Alakija: Okay must I always put up the straight out the camera shot to prove that a lot of work has gone into processing this shot? I think you are forgetting one thing, the camera meters for the fire as it's white point and as a result the whole thing would be yellow. Correcting the white balance would then lead you to having some colour issues and you'll loose the fire colour too.

As far as it being boring well I'll leave that to the rest of the viewers to judge. Sorry dude, the shot was meant to show a fire eater not someone posing in front of a wall as the others did.
Jide I am loving this effect. The vignetting also enhances the glowing fire...sweet!
Jide Alakija: Thanks Dotun.

Great capture Jide....uhm...in fact, i like the crop! I wish photo's like this one came straight out of my camera wink
Jide Alakija: I know the feeling, Skee will tell you about the challenges of low light photography in fact I'm sure he's not going to go easy on me with this one as it's his speciality.

Jide.. I have no idea how much colour correction you had to do on this because I tried a simular shot 3weeks ago and it came out just awful. I don't as yet have the skills to correct the colour balance but at least now I know it can be done so thanks for doing this. I need to check out the other shots of her before..... no, sorry Jide I love this shot and the others don't really matter.
Jide Alakija: Trust me when I did the shot to the link below it took me ages to get the colour balance right and I can't remember how I did it. I used some funny edge technique that I normally use for sharpening. You see the problem I find is keep the really bright bits rich whilst bringing out the darker one.

This is a really cool (actually hot) shot Jide, only let down for me is what looks like a white plank nailed to the wall behind her, the strong horizontal and vertical lines of which detract from your talented friend. Fantastic light on her, though, and colour too.
Jide Alakija: You know Steve I actually liked the background as it was shot next to a really dingy green wall. Maybe the focus should be soley on Claire in this case. Thanks.
Yest, agree with Steve !! Hot picture. Well done !
Jide Alakija: Thanks Florence

The glow from the fire lights up her face perfectly!! Wow! There's fire in her mouth!!
Jide Alakija: You know I still wonder if that fire is real sometimes...but it is.

Ouch! That looks so wicked. Great details, cool lighting on her face from the fire. Scary "hobby" though.
Jide Alakija: Phew! Laurie likes it then it's good then.

Hmm, it's obviously a worthy scene but there's an awful lot of black space in the photo which I don't like.
Jide Alakija: A matter of personal opinion I guess. Thanks Jamey.
the fire in the mouth..this is really hot! nice.
Jide Alakija: Thanks.

Wonderful photo...the lighting is perfect...I like the way you used the lighting from the fire to illuminate the photo. Very well done.
She makes it look so easy...you should add a caveat saying - don't try this at home folks...she is a professional LOL
Jide Alakija: Thanks Abiola.

I like the way the flame really does resemble a tongue and a very hot one too. I also like the way her arm seems to blend with and disappear into the background on the left.

I'm hopeless at choosing the 'right' crop, and everybody seems to have their own ideas and it's easy to be critical of other people's hard work. I don't think there's much wrong with this but I might have brought the right hand side in to match/end at the strong dark vertical.
Jide Alakija: Thank you very much for your appreciation Ellie, you totally understand how it feels.
