After the rain

I really appreciate the comments and encouragements recieved on yesterdays post, it's comments like those that actually give me the energy to move on with this thing. I spent some time pondering on your comments and haven't been able to find the time to reply to each one of them as I would have liked. Please bear with me on this. I really appreciate it a lot.

I realised that the reason I have kind of lost some inspiration is because I've more or less covered the main areas that photography has to offer. I now have to focus on the things that I like and keep pulling out stuff on these areas. Such include, London Olympians, Beaches in Nigeria, Okadas (motorcycle), Lagos street life, Thamesmead and of course portraits.

I took this shot during the half time interval of one of the Olympians game, I can't exactly remember what game it was, anyway I kind of like it just for it's simplicity. I don't see anything inspiring about it other than the fact that it's a simple umbrella just after the rain.

Can I ask one question, really what does an image like this say to you if it does?

this sums up things to come..preparation for the bad weather
Nice capture... Well, what does it say to me? At first sight, I see someone who is waiting for something to happen. Second sight, might be someone simply enjoying his walk in the rain... smile

Now this kind of a shot makes me wanna see the person behind the umbrellla. It seems as though any moment now, the person would turn and smile. Lovely capture.

Not to disrespect to those that thrive on taking a multifaceted shot and making a beautiful image out of it… but I think if you can achieve the same striking image with a seemingly simple composition like this, then props!

I like this, it is simple, easy on the eye and beautiful, there’s something soothing about it, but then again, I love the touch and sound of moving water, if I didn’t have to spend hours blow drying my hair into place I’d walk around in the rain, well that and the prospect of a cold! But seriously, I think this picture is lovely and that enough surely?

What I like about an image like this (and I do like this one a lot) is the emotions it stirs up. This one brings back memories of leisure walks in the rain on an afternoon when I had no responsibilities and several hours of free time ahead of me to do what ever I wanted. So for me, this is all about the emotions, the feelings.

You have to be specific..what the image says about the photographer or just the image...heres both:
-Photographer has skill(like dhh...) and is very insightful and deep.
-The shot makes me wonder...it so soft and there's rain, whos out all alone in the rain like that?.....
Great stuff...8.75/10

I'd like this in my portfolio
Jide Alakija: It's funny I took this shot because I remembered you. I was waiting for your comment on this one as I know it's what you'd do. I'm not sure it's as good as yours though.
Evocative image. Has a sense of solitude/comfort/protection.
It kind of reminds me of the calm after a storm and the fact that, you no longer need the umbrella or whatever was protecting you from that storm. But that is just my artistic point of view - as you said...it is just an umbrella.
