Sarah #2

Here is the second shot of Sarah. When I processed this I started to prefer it to yesterdays, I think it's obvious why. This shot took me quite sometime to process.

The highlight on her face is not blown out data but rather a diffuse glow which I've been experimenting with on my recent images. It's what I used to shine the teeth and also produce that "bling" in the Carnival shots I posted earlier.

In terms of post processing, I played around with the colour balance, minor curve adjustments for the sky and the face, skin softening, Minor curve adjustments for the hair (to bring out the highlights), a slight vigneting to the top half of the picture and the regular touch ups you do for portraits.

Difficult image. Sky is fine but skin looks burnt out in highlights and midtones. Instead of curves you might want to try layer Multply to darken and Screen to lighten, use masks for partial effect. If you have RAW file you might just try to create multiple exposures from it and then apply HDR processing. Hopefully helpful.
Jide Alakija: Thanks for your comment. The skin looks burnt out and it's deliberate, the original was not like this at all. I feel that not all images that have burnt highlights are bad images, sometimes you can use these highlights to your advantage.
hey jide,

once again, a very nice portrait. all of your pping work really paid off. i actually like yesterday's shot better b/c of the composition...the pose behind the veil was really top notch.
Jide Alakija: Thanks nicole. I used to like yesterdays alot but I guess it's the way I processed this one that makes it my favourite of the two.
She has a lovely smile and a teasing look about her. Very nice Jide
Jide Alakija: Thanks again for dropping by.

Very pretty and flattering image.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Laurie.
lovely portrait!
i like your pping on this picture. it is perfect in my eyes. the skin softening works very well for me. the details of eyes and hair still appear over the soft skin. i also like the lighting on her face. it has give beautiful contrast to the surface of her face skin. bravo Jide!
Jide Alakija: Thanks.

Much better than yesterday. Use of fill flash to soften the shadows would have been nice. Composition is a tad strange but still a very pleasing portrait.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Man. However don't you think the flash would soften the shadows too much? Thereby rendering the image flat?

I like this shot alot. I think your hard word on pp has really paid off. I am the last one to give advice but if you had some lights did you think about lighting from behind.
Jide Alakija: I'm not sure I would have lit her from behind, I do like the constrast you get using natural light, it's not totally dark on the other side, but the most important side is lit up well. THanks for the comment.

Use Flash Exposure Compensation to avoid flat lighting.
Jide Alakija: Exactly...that was done.

Love the sharpness of this shot, but not feeling it like yesterdays post.
Suby
Jide Alakija: Thanks Suby.
This is prettyful.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Manual.
This is really pretty. Can't fault it. However, despite the imperfections in yesterday's post, i still prefer it to this one. Strange, isn't it?
Jide Alakija: It's always the case with a lot of my work. I tend to prefer a lot of shots that others don't sometimes. I like all my work don't get me wrong. It's always in light of how I've processed it. Thanks.
SHe looks very pretty and playfull a testament also to your processing..a nice shot
Jide Alakija: Thanks FP.

Jide, beware, Suby's posting comments under my name. I hereby declare no responsibility for any mean cattiness he demonstrates under the alias of 'Sinem'.
Will the real Sinem please stand up? smile
Like the shot, but like the model better. Where's she from? She is smokin'!
Jide Alakija: Thanks Sin, I've noticed that the Big boy has been doing that.

The model is half Nigerian, half Bulgarian.

Lovely - tremendous angle and whatever you did to process it has resulted in a very natural looking shot, although a little pink at the end of her long hair looks like you may have missed a bit.

It may be the fashion, but I'm a bit of a traditionalist and I hate to see bra straps over bare shoulders. I'd prefer to see either the shoulder covered or the bra strap hidden.

That said, I'd be happy to see this lovely lady anywhere however she wanted to dress herself.
Jide Alakija: You never miss a think Colin. Actually what looks like a bra strap was the trap for the top she was wearing. Thanks for the comment.

Ahh....it is now wonder why you would like it better....again, great shot of a gorgeous girl but I'm missing yesterday's feel...there was that mysterious thing about it because her face was veiled...still though, it is a great shot...8.5/10
Jide Alakija: Grrrrr! I scored lower. You should see how I have been anticipating your response to this. Oh well, the pursuit still continues.

hey jide nice shot,i think its ok and the model looks great. And chunter since u dont know much about fashion and a traditionalist i think its better u leave that part for the fashion gurus and talk about something else on photography and one more think bra straps are quite sexy and teasing.Apart from that Jide good work! and thunps up to the model "sarah" i presume, half hungarian.great girl!
Jide Alakija: Oh dear and the banter starts....I don't know much about fashion I must admit. I'm learning as I go along.

Gia is absolutely right - I don't know much about fashion and should leave fashion comments to the gurus. I stand corrected (by Jide) that it's not a bra strap, but they are definitely not sexy to me.
Jide Alakija: As I mentioned about, I don't know much about fashion myself, however I do see both your points. Thanks for the comments guys.
Nice shoot !
Very fresh
Jide Alakija: Thanks Personne.
I like the pair of them but this one does it for me.....I think it is because you are closer.....she's very pretty she deserves closer.....there will be time in later life when she may prefer further! Great work as always....clean perfectly processed work. Phil
Jide Alakija: Thanks Phil. I'm glad you like this one too.

I absolutely love the lighting on this. Beautiful subject is made all the more alluring by the way the light hits her face and hair. Compare the lighing on the front view of the face with the shadows behind.

Great Work Jide.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Uzo.
