Portrait Series Part Duex : Miss U #2

Note the new position for the "Archive link" at the top

I don't normally shoot in the studio, infact I've only used a Studio twice and I've only put up one session up on my photoblog (I've still not found the time to process the other session). This one was quite a difficult one to produce in that it was difficult to get the colours on the skirt to match the background. Anyway I'm quite happy with the results in this one.

This is a very interesting portrait. At first I said wow cool, but as I looked longer I realised that if you don't look closely it's hard to tell whether she is standing up, sitting, or crouching down which makes her look a wee bit out of proportion. It seems like she is sort of sitting, or crouching.
Jide Alakija: Now that's the mystery behind this one. Thanks Laurie.
Your just too good huh!!! wish i had taken this...really cool, id be a lil more than quite happy with it dude grin
Jide Alakija: Thanks Yanik. I'm quite happy too. I never didn't even process it when I shot it. It didn't have the punch until the final outcome.

ok like i dnt think im ever going to get over this potrait JIDE!!!!!!!! as in how did u knw that photography was ur thing???? Like how does some1 knw wot their thing is???? JEEZZ MAN!!!! I guess we all have to keep searching ourselves till we find it!!!! I AM LIKE THE DADDY OF INSPIRED!!!!
Jide Alakija: Now this is a question that bugs me everytime, even now. Who said photography is my thing? It's just my hobby. It's funny because I have interests in other things, photography is just on the side.

I think the answer to your question is to do what you like as your hobby and just leave it at that, there is no pressure to produce anything outstanding and you'll see the results will be outstanding....I don't knwo if that makes anysense.

Wow, the angle and the lighting makes the portrait look very mysterious. The stripes of the colors are very nice against the dark background.
i have nothing techy to say but i think very very lovely....

Okay i usually don't comment on old photos since i'm not sure you (or anyone) reads the comments but this is a special onewink First impression is wow. You get points for impact and pop.

Now the criticisms...Firstly you need a hair light (or need to reposition the one you've got) to create more separation between her hair and background. Same goes for the dress...very little sadow detail available and hence the comments about not knowing if she;s croucheing, sitting, etc.

Looks like you have one light in this shot. Since you were in a studio, you should have had access to more lights or at least a reflector to create some fill for the right side of her face/body. I Just to lighten the shadows a wee bit.

Now for the important bit: I probably couldn't execute the shot in the way i've described so kudos to you for the strong attempt. I've always been good at spotting flaws even when i can't wuite achieve the desired result myself!
