photoblog image Miss G
Miss G|

Miss G

One of those shots. Thought since yesterdays wasn't up to par for most people I'll put something totally different. Hope you like it.

Post processing: Not much apart from smoothening and a few other touch ups. Oh yeah the usual tweaking of curves and colour has been applied. That's it.
Crop: None

...I'm getting ready to crack my whip here...

On first inspection I really liked this, cept for the fact that, having the eyes so far up in the composition kind of draws the focus more towards the nose. :-(

The tones, are nice and rich, this picture had alot of potential.

So what recked it, you may ask smile

1. The smoothing out of the skin, I see where your going here, but, the time around it's rather an un finished job, espcially around the mouth and chin and also near the temple.

2. the shadows on the base of the nose seem tohave been adjusted, I could be wrong here. But my "Skee" senses are tingling!

3. lack of a hint of detail on the hair.

On the whole, like I said, loads of potential, Miss G, is very attractive, and what lovely lips.
Jide Alakija: Thanks for your comments. Deliberatly hid the detail from the hair as I didn't want any attention on them. So that's another iteration of the image.

Smoothing was because when I took the shot I used my speedlite and no diffusing and you can imagine, I have a very hard light reflection on the skin, so I had to smoothen it.

As you say it looks unfinished and you are right, I didn't have time to do some more work on it.
The good
Lighting and Composition

The Bad
The smoothening out of her skin is inconsistent; especially around her fore head and her mouth.
There is something about her nose region (smudge)

The Ugly
-
Jide Alakija: Thanks Sola. Not sure I understand what you mean about the smudge.

The treatment of the eyes and the lips are superb!
I think too your decision to hide the details in the hair was a good one, its in sync with the treatment of the skin.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Deji.
Excellent. I love the simplicity. The effectiveness of portraits can almost be attributed to the simplicity of the shot. Here, we're forced to look only at her (and those big, beautiful eyes). Nice framing, Jide. Great work. Regards.
P.S. Really love those lips tongue Drool...

I see people like my style of commenting, hehe.

Jide, I'm really diggin this shot bro.

WIL:
-I know what Skee is talking about in this image, but in all honesty, I didn't even look at the nose untill I read his comment. I was pulled into the eyes instantly because of their whites against a soft and smooth skin.
-post processing is wonderful
-I dont know what people are talking about when they talk about the nose. I honestly think it looks just fine. If you look at an image too long it becomes really weird and you begin to dislike it. As you would when you think of a word, and think of its definition. Some of you know what I'm talking about.
-I love her beautiful lips and little smirk/smile.
What is she doing friday night? hehe

WIDL:
-The bumps to the right of her lips. Either way, she's still very cute!

Overall, bro, this is definatly 9.5/10!

It's mostly been said, I think. First impression is really good. It's a lovely composition; a good tight crop framed on either side by black hair and shadows.

Close inspection reveals perhaps a little too much softening under and between the eyes and around the mouth.

Just below the undereye softening is a hint of skin texture that I'd like to see more of. If the softening is to hide skin blemishes or wrinkles, perhaps the addition of some noise would help to blend the softening in with the natural texture.

All that said, I wish I'd taken this picture. Nice one.

Lovely start point but I think you've lost some realism in areas, particularly around the eye (her right cheekbone) and also to the left of her nose. The softness contrasts too much with the detail in her lips I'm afraid. Sorry Jide, this one is not doing it for me as a portrait.

I almost gave this shot full marks bro, until I took a closer look at your PP of the skin, Eeeeeeyyyyyyy, eeeeeccccckkkkk and wha? What the hell happened here bro? Seems you got half way through a master piece then gave up. Reminds me of that Kroeninburg advert, 188whatever, bad year for composing smile

Now I will have to be harsh on you bro and say, you let your hair down on this one(no excuses needed, just take your beating like a man and don't do it again). The more I look at the image the more I dislike it. Sorta creeps me out, the skin thing, smooth above the mouth, and yuck below. MAJOR Eeeeeewwwww.

Eeeeck, shock and horror, stop press....... I have just read completely the response you gave to Mr Skee's comments. Am I reading it right? Your so called excuse is "As you say it looks unfinished and you are right, I didn't have time to do some more work on it." Nooooo you did not write that, maybe that was a lapse in memory. Suby rubs eye and in his horror words still appear in front of him. Suby reminds himself he has crucified lesser humans for less, but coming from The Alakija man this is of monumental proportions. Verging on unbelievable.

I AMMMM SOOOOOO DISAPPOINTED. Not only did you GIVE an excuse, that was your excuse? (never in all my years...) smile

If you could not be bothered to finish editing properly, why should I bother to look at the image, maybe next time you can post the bit YOU HAVE had time to edit.

I like the fact you wanted the attention to focus on the eyes, I like that, I like that you hid the highlights in the hair, I actualy like the nose but maybe there is a smudge there I am not sure.

I will however bestow on you the honor of a not soo coveted double "ME NO LIKEY, ME NO LIKEY". Not because this is a duff image, but because you could not be bothered to finish the masterpiece that it is.

Now go hang your head in shame in the corner. Bad bad BAD Alakija Man.

Hi Jide, I have to say it is not one of my favourites from your many portraits, I guess maybe the PP has something to do with it, but like I said yesterday if you don't try you will never know. Keep posting brother!!!

This is an absolutely gorgeous portrait of an absolutely gorgeous girl...drool..
All this time looking at this picture, I thought I had already left some kind of feedback, but apparently not! I just wanted to say that I do like the picture. I do agree with most of Mista Skee’s comments but I certainly don’t believe you’ve “wrecked it”. Miss G is very beautiful and that beauty has been captured. Any loose ends can be dealt with later.

Her skin lacks natural details. I think you overly retouched it.
