photoblog image Flaming!!!

Flaming!!!

This is an image that I thought wasn't really anything when I was processing it but turned out to be one of my personal favourites. Not because it's anything special but because it's one I can say passed the "Alakija Framing Test"

What that means is that this is an image I can actually see myself framing. I find that most of my images may look good but only on a blog, I'm never happy with them as for sales and framing. This is definitely one I would frame, if not for anyone at least for myself. Do you agree?

For those of you that wish to see the original, I have posted it here.

Post processing: Colour correction through curves on drink, background, contrast correction on backgroung only, H/S on drink and dark gradient for framing.

Oh I also put the event shots where this picture was taken
here

Nice work. I wouldn't have looked twice at the original image, but what you've done to it is fantastic.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Heath.
nice mood shot...feel like sitting at the bar and listen a band on the stagesmile great color tone and compositionsmile
Jide Alakija: Thanks again.

I would have taken this shot too, but I wouldn't have been happy with it as it is. It has a nice abstract quality that I would explore further before framing.

At the moment it's too clear what it is. I would probably attempt to make it look much more painterly and even more abstract. Then I would frame it and hang it in a room with dim lights and a log fire.

This has potential. Well seen.
Jide Alakija: Good suggestions as usual. If I see the opportunity again I'll do just that. Thanks Colin.

Looking at the original and what you have made of it, I can only quote one of my favorite musicians: "You've come a long way, baby" ;-). Fabulous processing (and I'm not bored at all)!
Jide Alakija: Thanks Ella. You're always on my back. grin

The post pro version is very colourful compared to the original image. Not sure its doing anything for me though, as it appears now?
Jide Alakija: Okay watch out for tomorrow's image. It's something I know YOU'LL like....I hope. Thanks. Lost your URL to your blog!!! sad

Yep, it's a framer! Nicely done.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Thanks Thanks...I'm going to frame it!!!!
Not quite for me, I think you need a little bit more beneath the glass, the edge for me is too close the glass base. I'm not sure I'd frame it alone, maybe part of a set of three complimenting it but if you like then that's all that matters! smile

Post processing skills are excellent as usual...not sure what my opinion on that is though at the moment.
Jide Alakija: Sigh! Can't get them right everytime....don't worry tomrrow will be a treat.

Okay not feeling the shot.

Swiftly moving on, I had a look at the event shots and yep, the force is DEFINITELY VERY VERY strong with young Luke.

Beautiful shot each and every one of them. Hard to find 1 shot that I don't like. Impressive. Seen some of your oother even shots and have to say the lighting in these shots seem to be a dream. So question, What did you do different? Was the lighting better? DID you have a soft box hidden somewhere or did you just bounce your flash for most of these images?

Whatever you did I have to say a HUGE WELL DONE.

Suby.

P.s
170 imagaes, dang boy, did you shot all in RAW, did you edit all the shots?(thought I am the only nitwit that does that) smile
Jide Alakija: 170 - Really? I didn't know I took that few, normally take about 300 or so.

Lighting....well when next we meet in a party together with our gear maybe I might share a thing or two. wink I use all sorts from CD's to cards to boxes anything that will allow my creativity shine through. Skee and I have a trademark for the way we use our flashes too.

Really nice shot! It feels like if you had moved your camera a bit to the right one would have seen Duke Ellington sitting on a bar stool smoking on his fav cigar. Basically, I see the shot and think Harlem!

Not sure about this image, Jide, but I must say I like the processing.
What on earth is Soul Love Sunday?
Why do you keep on building up tension for tomorrow's shot? What will be so special about it? Is it a portrait, is it a portrait? (Add the intonation of 'Are we there yet, are we there yet?')
Great event shots by the way, now I know why my bridesmaid was so busy to call me back as she was out there having a nice time. smile

Nice job on the processing. The picture itself doesn't grab me but its well done. I like the event shots. I assume it wasn't that light in there. What type of flash are you shooting with?
Jide Alakija: Thanks...it didn't grab many, maybe that's because I am wierd like that.

I shoot off camera and use a very wide apeture that way I capture all the colours and the tones.
