Self portrait 3

Apart from the fact that my lovely lady, Tosin has been admitted into Hospital for God knows what, the holiday has been going on quite well. Oh and thank you for those really hearty comments over the past few days, normally I would take the time to reply each and every one, things haven't really turned out that way for the main reason that I'm sooooooo busy and keeping this going is really tough at the moment. What I need to do is take sometime out to produce all the shots I can so the quality doesn't slump. But then it would almost defeat the purpose of a daily journal.

Anyway over to this photo, I've not done any self portrait stuff for a while and I've been meaning to do something with Shadows. This is what I came up with on Friday, I'll be very interested to hear your thoughts on this one, what strikes you about it? Any different from my usual stuff?

Post processing: Contrast correction in Lab mode, Orange photofilter on the top left only, Curves on the dark portions to correct contrast, selective colour to bring out the whites and shine on the floor, Curves for the top left.

Update: Due to poipuler demand, I've put up the

Wow how did you get such a long shadow - was it a sunset - because I see a lovely orange glow in there.Great sewtting for the shadow - wonderful detail.Love it.
Jide Alakija: Yeah you're right, I should have concentrated a bit more on that bit. Sigh! Thanks.

Totally my kind of photo :-! Love the shape of the shadow and especially the reddish tones on the top. The structure of the concrete also works very well here.
My heartfelt "Get well soon!" to Tosin.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Ella. Tosin's feeling a lot better today, they thought she had Malaria (she'd been in a tropical country recently)
Wow, Jide...err, Skywalker: I would love to see what the original looked like with all that post! The orange adds a lot to the shot and the selective color of the white is impressively done. This shot, with the extremely distorted shadow, reminds me very much of my first-ever post on my p'blog. You asked if I see much difference here between this and your other shots. Well, not a whole lot. You're still using a lot of negative space, you're still using high-contrast to create a very definite, and somewhat trademarked, look to the shot, and you've kept the perspective interesting. Sounds like Jide to me. Regards, Brent
Jide Alakija: Thanks Brent, original is up, see caption update.

It's nice, I like the tones, textures and lines. How does the original look like? The shadows look a bit unnatural, as if they were drawn...
Jide Alakija: Thanks Veloran, original is up, see caption update.

John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever" is what springs to mind. Were you wearing bell-bottoms? It's ok, you can tell me ... wink

Actually quite like the processing you've done on the shot. It's more impressive once one has seen the original. I think you should make a habit of doing that - makes people appreciate the work that goes into it a lot more!

My love to Tosin, and tell her to get better soon. Thanks to her, the future husband isn't dreading the thought of me with a shaved head and eventually dreadlocks as much as before ... smile

Glad she's feeling better.

LOVE this shot because of the awesome colors and the long shadows. Like that you included the fence (or is that a waste can?) in the compositon.

Very nice play of shadows, Jide. Great capture.
Very inventive and a nice result.
Trying not to be too skeptical but I am guessing this sort of result depends on first of all your ability to spot an image but also your ability to know what to do with it. Your post processing details are really helpful to me in knowing what to try.

Keep it up!
