On the ball

Theme of the Week: Best of the Olympians

Shot 1: On the ball

Firstly I'd like to thank the administration staff at the London Olympians for providing me with the opportunity to cover their games. They gave me free license to shoot as many shots as I could whilst they did the business with the other teams in the game.

Right this is the first shot of the series. This was the first time I'd ever covered a sports game not to mention one I had very little knowledge about. So you can imagine I wasn't too sure what to look for. As we say in Nigeria, "I tried sha!". As usual I kept to the script, "Look for the dramatic moments" but at the same time remember you are here to report what happened in the game through photography.

This was a game between the London Olympians (Maroon) and the PA knights at home.

Did you know that we had an
American Football League in the UK? I've asked some of their members to visit the blog this week, if you have any questions why not leave a message or contact the London O's at thier website

This is very, very nice! The composition and framing on this is wonderful, focusing my eye on the ball. I love this unique perspective.

I LIKEY. I love the composition. love the colours. Damn, why have I not taken a shot like this? Welcome back Mr Alakija. Now I am so looking forward to seeing your other shots in this series.

Note to self. Keep Jide's blog away from Sinem smile
Jide Alakija: Mr Suby, thanks. I'm really happy that I can impress you once again. You flatter me once again Simen.

I have seen all the photos you took at this game and this is in my top 10. I was very impressed that this was your first sporting event as you caught so much of the emotions involved in this particular game and I hope you show a few more shots.

Nice colours... the last time I saw this shot I remember it being somewhat yellow (1980s faded style?). I prefer this rehash. The ball could be a bit better positioned though.

Fresh new viewpoint of the line of scrimmage. I like it alot.
I really like this perspective allot. It is original to me, Ive never seen a shot of the line of scrimmage done like this...very nice work!

I looks really american-Techno colour sort of thing!!

Very impressive. You have a good eye!

Jide Alakija: Thanks Tosin. I think you have a large part to play in most of these.
Love the angle and the focus on the ball.

I'm not feeling this one at all, sorry! I must admit I'm a complete NIETE when it comes to sports though...

Thanks for dropping by "nativ flavaz" it's always refreshing to meet a new commenter and a fellow photoblogger. Really like this action shot, would be nice to see the emotion this shot on the faces of some of the players. Fantastic colours and clarity although the legs on the reciever at the front look a little too processed and perhaps block to much detail out. I'll definitely be coming back here as I'm totally into sports and sports photography. Good stuff Jide
Good grief!!! It's only noon and you've broken the 200 hits barrier. I only got 80 hits and was very happy already. Dang!
Great action shot. You can feel the tension ! It looks like you are in the middle of the game!
Jide Alakija: Thanks Sidney for the comment. It's what you get for using a zoom lens I suppose.

I didn't realise we had a league here. Fantastic colours hope to see more smile

Like Sacha, I've also seen all the pictures in the series and this one is one of my favourites. You definitely captured the tension that precedes the snap of the ball before each play. Looking forward to tomorrow's shot.

this is a test
Great composition (even looking through a guy's crotch!). The football is a great focal point. Lovely colors.
Terrific image. I love the colors and composition.
Jide Alakija: Thanks for the comment Otto K.
