Power Drummer

It's friday and you know what that means? Party time. Not to bore you but I couldn't resist. I have a few of the drummer pics that I took sometime in Lagos Nigeria. This is the same guy who I put up on the 27th of January, (have a look at the archive) of the three drummers on that day. Okay now I've introduced you to only one out of three of them and you can guess, yes I did take shots of the other two. Look out, I'll soon be displaying them in the near future, next Friday perhaps. Also it has come to my attention that the reason why most people who come to the site don't leave comments is because of the intimidation effect the other commentators give when they leave thier own comments. A message for you if you really want to leave a comment but are scared to, just leave it anyway, leave the intimidation to me. I really value all your comments regardless of how silly you think they may be otherwise send them privately, your comments let me know that you care about my work. Thanks for coming. Have a great weekend.

It's aiiight. Like the sepia tones.

Sorry not feeling too good so comments/constructive put downs (ooops critique) short tonight.

On the contrary, i think the sepia is kinda overdone. It gives the drummer a sickly sort of look (like Jaundice?). Oh, and about that... I couldn't really tell what the guy was doing until i read your description. Me thinks the angle of the shot kinda hides the drum somewhat. If you had taken the shot from a slightly more frontal position where you could see more of the drum head and his hands hovering above them, it would be more obvious and lively?
Not sure about the desaturated look, it would have made a far better black and white. But not being Nigerian, this photo still scores highly with me for being exotic (at least to me). The texture on his face catches my attention, especially the 3 "claw" marks. Now where is Mr Skee? I can't wait to read his comments on this one.
interesting composition. ur journalistic style comes through here, showing the guy has been seriously beating that drum. maybe more expression from the face?

I hear the sounds of the drums... and the expression on the drummer's face, the protruding veins, ach wie ich Dich Liebe, Heimat meiner Kindheit... thx Jid. U always transport me back to the sunny shores of good old Naija. This is how I love to remember the place ;-)
Great shot really captures the moment...just not sure about the pink hat.

Looks like this guy has had a rough life. But you can never tell. I like the tone, but it is a little bit green on my monitor too. I like a good DOF shot, but in this case, the colorful checked shirt the guy on the left in the background has on is a bit distracting.

true it does look a bit on the green side. I dont agree with Denosha though. I knew immediately whatthe guy was up to without taking the whole pix into account. That might be attributed to the fact that im a lil more conversant with the culture?

Maven: claw marks? lol Those are tribal marks i\'m sure you must know somehing about those?
I find the comments above regarding the color tone of this image very interesting. I opened this one up from your archives because I was drawn to it for the color. I think everything about it is right on. The expression... the motion... the stance of the body... the pink hat. Very nice!
Jide Alakija: Thanks Diane, that's exactly what I was trying to portray but we all use different lenses in our glasses.
