Macro: Fork in grain

I just realised that I've never ever put up a macro shot before. In fact I don't think any body knows that I too have my own macro collection. This would have to be the first. Everyone does a Fork in macro, I thought I'd vary it a bit with this shot. I also have this without a grain and I've put it up for the 14th Jan 2005 (Check the photo archive) Tell me which one you prefer.

Hehe... good first try for macro. You have to be careful with depth of field. It's so shallow when you're that close. I've got a spoon in macro, but not a fork (at least not yet). BTW, looking at your archive, you've shown this photo before on 14th January. Maybe you want to remove one of them.

This is a great photo.. i'm inspired. (and i like the near abstract look of it too)
balo and The Maven: I put two shots up, one with a grain and one without. I asked in the caption which you liked.

I saw the caption but counldnt see the difference. like i said. it's quite subtle which is most probably why i couldnt see the difference at 3am in the morning. Nice job though

Hmmm....
Your depth of field is too shallow, lovely shadow, very nice but the fork is too far out of focus. If more of the teeth of the fork where in focus... this would have been fantastic!

this isn't really my type of photography, however, i prefer i prefer the cleaner lines of the earlier shot (without the grain).

I love the way the teeth sunk ino the background and how the shadows extens to the front. If not for the shadow, I would guess the fork is put behind a thix latex screen.
