Theme of the Week: Portraits of emotion Shot 6: Serenity
I've run out of stuff to put up and if I'm not careful I'll have nothing to put up tomorrow, the last day. This wasn't supposed to be part of this series, as I thought it would make the series boring (another shot of Tosin, for whom I'm displaying signs of obsession here). Not much done here apart from a slight manipulation of the skin tones and the hair.
I'm very interested to hear what you think about it.
Next week I'm going to slow down on theme-ing as I'm getting a bit bored of seeing the same thing for a whole week. I'll be playing around with a few more shots that I've taken over the past few weeks whilst the last two themes were on. I hope to entertain you with some interesting and brilliant stuff in my opinion. Have a great weekend.
In other news, we've added a link to help you bookmark our photoblogs. You can see it on the left of this text, together with the "about me", etc links. Hope you find this feature useful
Love the composition of the model, I like the fact you did not capture the whole head, dislike the shot though. Toooo blurry, your earlier shots were more on the button. Keep looking at the image and wishing the soft focus to work for me.... 2.7minutes later, still a me no likey. What type of lighting was used? Seems to be a glare on her cheeks, does not create an even tone to the skin.
Know your signature is the way you process your images, however I think for this one, it would have benefited from more sharpness and less editing, maybe changing the white balance may help. But what the hell, as long as you love it, Suby will shut up(after he has had his say though)
Suby.
P.s
I think I'm starting to feel a little better
Jide Alakija: I'm happy you are feeling better. Thanks.
P.p.s
Explain to me which mode you prefer taking shots in and why?
Jide Alakija: WOAH! That's a tough one. Mode: It depends on what I'm doing. If it's a portait or an event, Full Manual, if it's a documentary or reportage, Program, abstract - aperture.
Why? Portraits - I can control the levels of light coming in and therefore produce better colours for the skin.
Event - Because I don't want my flash to produce all the light coming into the shot.
Doc or Reportage - Because there's too many things to think about, I let the camera do some of it, whilst I take all the shots I want. Not looking to be creative with aperature either.
abstract - This I find not to be my strengths so I use DOF to make the image more appealing.

Another job well done. Any picture of Tosin gets a Yes vote from me because you do seem to take extra care with her pictures. E ku ise
Jide Alakija: Well I can be more creative with her shots as she doesn't really mind me doing all sort of work to it, not everyone I photograph likes my style, Tosin has no choice.

I have to say first off dat i'm not a photography-pro so bear wit me. I'm a big fan of dis site and have to say i've been a viewer only for the past couple of months but i have to say i love this pic so much i had to give ma 2cents. The serenity tag is so right and all i can say is this pic is perfect (the angle, lighting on the cheek and hair etc). Everything fits (or maybe i'm just in a good mood). You've done a great job so far.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Tolu, that's a Pro comment right there. Please don't be shy to say what you think about other images too, it's very subjective.
Excellent work. Good job lighting her face in a perfect way, but you also managed to get the back lighting right too and it looks great! Nice title for the portrait.
Jide Alakija: Thanks Andy.

I've read the other comments and don't quite get it. This is a fantastic shot! Yes, it's posed and yes it's arty but that's exactly what is should be. I love the colours, I love the golden tone of skin where the light hits - it's as though she's towering over the sun and looking down at it. Even the contrast from the silver earring works. (You can tell I'm a colour person).
You can tell there's some luvin in this potrait
PS: I would have pulled all her hair out of the way so the light could hit the back of the models neck also.
