Sorry for those of you that I promised to post a follow up shot from yesterdays, I'm glad we had that debate because it was bound to come up sooner or later.
No the most flattering of poses by Tosin but who said I had to have good poses all the time. Actually at that moment she was in deep thought such a thinker she can be sometimes. I think this shot reflects the kind of mood she seemed to be in at the time. From this shot you can tell I've hanging around Kenny's Blog for too long. I originally processed a colour version but I thought it was too radical a change from my normal stuff. What do you think?
Oh BTW THIS IS NOT HDR!!!
My day: Not much was done today as my mood was rather low. I'm on the up though and I think that was as a result of the fact that I had delivered a job to a client who was very happy. I need more days like this.
This is a really strong image Jide. I must get myself a full-frame camera so I can take photos at real 17mm too. 2 minor areas of weakness for me: 1) the blown out bit of sky which is contending for my attention, and 2) the halo around Tosin upper body, more noticeable on our left. Only nit-picking, though
Jide Alakija: Thanks Steve. About the Sky and Halo, you can tell I was very tired and this was a very quick post. Looking at it now I can't believe I even bothered to post it. I'll have to somehow correct it. Thanks.
I love this. It is something that I could easily have hanging off my wall. The sky is absolutely wonderful. And it is good that Tosin is not the complete focus of the shot and that her pose does not distract you from the rest of the shot.
Following on from my & Jon's posts above, we have one of the problems and pressures of photoblogging. You've taken a cracking picture and your pp-ing is excellent, apart from a couple of weaknesses which we pointed out. However, to get rid of the haloes around Tosin, you'd have to do some really time-consuming and exacting work. It's all very well if you have a paying customer or a frame waiting for a print, but if the target is just the blog, then is it really worth spending the time? You have a life after all. And if it's a blog-only photo, is it fair for nit-picking pedants like me to even mention it, when most other people either don't notice it, or don't care, or perhaps more likely, are too polite to mention it? Actually, since your ShMood is yellow, am I even allowed to raise this or my last post?
Sorry, I'm digressing into a more philosophical discussion here, like chunter did yesterday. Feel free to ignore me. Have a great day.
Jide Alakija: You like Colin (Chunter) are one of the people who actually help me grow in photography. You are right, is there a point to redo the image on a blog, I guess there isn't because it's open for the others to learn.
Please be as philosophical as you want, the only reason I go Yellow is because I don't want comments that have nothing to do with the shot or the topic of discussion.
Jide I think this is a lovely shot which I think does suit the thoughtful mood of the subject, I particularly like the framing and subject placement, it adds a degree of tension within the frame. I think the point made about the imperfections is valid but sometimes folk can get to hung up about these issues. I feel this is undoubtedly more of an issue now as digital is always so clean and free of imperfections certainly compared to conventional film. By the way I hope you like some of the new posts, after your gauntlet being thrown I thought it was due a positive response, I hope you liked them...
Hi Jide, laolu here! I was just wondering if people have bought pictures from you, based on this site or if youve gotten jobs as a result... and the process. Thanks
after reading steve's comment it made me think for a while ..
Is it worth spending time redoing the pp on a photo just for a photoblog..
I must admit that i never "done" the pp on one of my posts again, but every time i am working on a new photo i take all the critics that i've remembered with me and try to get a better result for the next post.
About this post: i really love the fact that you shot her from below while she is looking down but not looking at you!
does that make sence?
great photo Jide!!
Something about this picture reminds me of Lauryn Hill’s video for her song Everything is Everything. Especially the part of the video where she said ‘… sometimes it seems we’ll touch that dream but things come slow or not at all…’ for those who haven’t seen it ah, never mind. Cant work out how to hyperlink on here. Google it if you must.
Nice capture Jid, the clouds still seem to be in motion, though I’d saying going past her. Who were you channelling Madame?
For your next challenge, I think you should try shooting a motion picture. A music video. Go yea forth and bring back goodness
I think it is brilliant, I do not myself see the direct spin-off as to my style. Some commenters might be right regarding the light around her head, but I don not know if you have corrected this. But it is good.
