New York, New York

Remember a few months back I started a series on my time in New York City. Well this is an image that is part of that series.

I was on a walk with Isi that day and we came across this scene. I noticed the lovely contrast between the yellow cabs and the Gucci board in the background. I immediately picked my spot and took this shot. I think portrays the comsopolitian side to New York.

What do you think?

N.B. For those of you wondering why my ISO was set to 1600, again I was after speed and also a more infocus image too.

It's quite interesting the extent to which advertising has evolved. It's remarkably cool the way the Gucci ad wraps the Trump Tower. Great capture.

I can't get enough New York pictures at the moment, Jide. I'm taking the missus there in March o/
This is really good. I can see why you would want to stop and capture it.

went there a couple of months ago myself, stood in the exact same spot and took the exact same shot...love those trees...
Jide Alakija: WOW! So that means that there's still a lot of work going on over there then. I took this in September last year.

The advertising is everywhere! Yes I think it does capture that side of NY.

I tend to take NY for granted because I live so close to it and go there fairly often. I do tend to shoot more of it from the Jersey side.
Jide Alakija: I feel the same when I'm in London. I don't seem to see the same shots that most people who are visiting see.

Astonishing detail right through the picture, it's very good.

How did you get such strong colors with such a high ISO? This shot is amazing.
Jide Alakija: The ISO doesn't affect the colour. It only can affect the sharpness of the image. I boosted some of the colours in photoshop

Really like the composition on this one. It's of a scene we all have seen 100's of times, and yet the composition still makes this a very interesting and entertaining picture.

What did you achieve with the two exposures that you couldn't have done otherwise?
Jide Alakija: There were so many things wrong with the shot when I did the capture. The sky was very bright so it meant that the buildings to the far right would have been very over exposed if I metered for the Gucci board. So I had to generate two exposures taking into consideration the exposure for the board and one for the buildings to the far left.

Jide Alakija: Thanks. I'm no camera expert and I am based in the UK. I suggest you check out http://www.cnet.com for comparison on the various cameras on the market that will fit your budget.

Arresting image. I like the bold colours, it draws me into the scene. Been a fan of your work. First saw these oversized boards in NY and I notice they are getting common place in London now.

I love this. All the colors seem to run from one side of the picture to the other, and the tree seems so luciously green. Nice one.
